Stuart Whipps from Birmingham considers art as a way of learning from people and places, using curiosity to discover the world. His video Askeaton Hands is a portrait of our local community made during his stay in 2025, and a representation of the hands that move, handle and shape the very existence of everyday life in Askeaton and its hinterland. In Askeaton Hands, Whipps’ depictions do not appear as posed or as gestures of grandeur. Yet they still seems heroic, knowing that dignity is found in how we relate to place, time and the communities built around us.
